Vanishing Patio Doors

Installing glass walls in a home to take advantage of a desert vista or a landscaped yard is nothing new, but the current trend is moving toward disappearing glass walls. “It’s a matter of bringing the outdoors inside… at will,” states builder Cole Pofahl. Residents of the Southwest enjoy moderate temperatures and roughly 340 days of sunshine, which encourages closer contact with Mother Nature.

At the push of a button, a great room can extend onto the patio, or conversely, the patio and pool areas can share the living room or family room. It’s a major leap forward for entertaining guests, appearing to double the available open space. Opening up the walls seems to give guests free reign to move about and share more conversations.

Providing unobstructed views of the Franklin Mountains or a Las Cruces sunset from the living area is another advantage of the telescoping doors. You share the landscape from your sofa or breakfast bar. An El Paso homeowner in the Willows installed corner disappearing doors on his small breakfast nook, which opened it up to a large patio/pool area. This brings the vanishing doors to a more personal level that could be used on an almost daily basis.

The multi-slide configurations are meticulously handcrafted for smooth operation and solid closures. Duo-pane insulating glass with a variety of glass types, colors and configurations are available. Hardware is designed for twice the weight of any panel and the doors can be automated with the latest in stationary and remote controls.

There is virtually no limit to the width of openings and heights can be extended up to 12 feet. Doors can stack on one side or the other or disappear totally into wall panels. They can telescope into corners at angles between 90 and 180 degrees. Even bent glass options are available.

A variety of threshold options are manufactured for dealing with weather conditions and track visibility.
